Nat’l Social Service Day observed in Jhenaidah

National social service day was observed in Jhenaidah with a view to rebuild the country through progress and development. Organized by Jhenaidah district social service office, a colourful rally and discussion meeting was held on Monday morning.

The rally started from the office of the deputy director of the social service office led by deputy commissioner (DC) Manira Begum paraded the local roads and ended at the starting point. Later the discussion was held with the deputy director Abdul Latif Sheikh in the chair at his office auditorium. DC Manira Begum attended the discussion as chief guest.

District information officer Abu Bakar Siddique, assistant director of the office Abdullah Al Shami, disabled Sanzida Khatun among others spoke. Human rights activist Aminur Rahman Tuku, government children’s’ home deputy superintendent Rumana Yesmin, above a hundred of people with disability, non-government organization executives and media activists present. 

Deputy Commissioner distributed warm clothing among the destitute children, women and Taka 14 lakh as loans among 40 persons with disability.

In her speech as chief guest deputy commissioner Manira Begum said nobody should ignore the people with disability as they are obviously the part and parcel in the society. They have been contributing a lot in nation building activities and showing glorious results in games and other sectors in home and abroad.

Describing begging by some of the people, especially, disabled, the deputy commissioner said they should be rehabilitated in the family and society to recognize their potentials when the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set an example involving the people with disability in mainstream development.
