Nat'l poetry festival on February 1-2

February 1, 2 have been fixed to celebrate the 34th Jatiya Kabita Utshab (National Poetry Festival) on the Dhaka University’s (DU) Central Library premises under the theme “Mujib Amar Swadinotar, Omor Kabbyer Kobi”. Veteran poet Mahadev Saha will inaugurate the festival.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Dhaka University and President of the National Poetry Council Professor Muhammad Samad and General Secretary Tariq Sujat elaborated on the details of the two-day poetry festival at a press conference held at the Teacher-Student Centre on Thursday. It will be inaugurated after paying homage to National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Artist Kamrul Hasan and the martyrs of Language Movement.

Jatiyo Kobita Utsob Honorary Award' will be presented to Poet Ahmad Rafiq, Journalist and Columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury and Poet Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir respectively.  The festival will feature poetry recitation session, open discussion and seminars. Poets from countries including Sweden, Spain, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Nepal, India will participate in the festival.

The festival originally began in 1987 with a view to raising voices through poems against dictatorship and tyranny.
