The anti-tobacco platforms working in Bangladesh will observe the ‘National No Tobacco Day-2021’ today (October 9) in a bid to create public awareness against the consumption of tobacco and to achieve the goal of making ‘Tobacco-free Bangladesh’ by 2040.
The theme of the day this year has been taken ‘Quit tobacco to save lives, resist the aggression of tobacco companies’.
The anti-tobacco organisations have taken various awareness programmes across the country to mark the day.
As part of the countrywide programme, ‘Pratashya’ Madhok Birodhi Sangathan, an anti-drug organisation, Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust, Tobacco Control and Research Cell (TCRC) of Dhaka International University, Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA) and Aid Foundation will jointly form a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka at 10:30 am today (Saturday).
Helal Ahmed, general secretary of ‘Pratashya’, called upon the anti-tobacco activists and others to make the programme a success.
The BATA and other anti-tobacco platforms have been celebrating the ‘National No Tobacco Day’ on October 9 since 2011.
