The people across the country observed the National Mourning Day-2019 and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Thursday. The day was observed in all the districts with a fresh vow to materialize the dreams of Bangabandhu to build golden Bangladesh as well as ‘Sonar Bangla’.
In Khulna, the city and district units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front- organisations and different other political parties also observed various programmes marking the day, reports our Khulna Correspondent.
A mourning procession was brought out in the city. KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, freedom fighters, government high officials and leaders of civil society, among others, attended the mourning rally. Later, they placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Khulna District Administration organised a discussion. Directorate of Youth Development distributed prize among the winners of essay, art, hamd, naat and poem recetation competitions and cheques among freedom fighters at DC’s conference room. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Lokman Hossain Mia addressed the meeting as chief guest with deputy commissioner Md Helal Hossain in the chair.
A book show was held at Umesh Chandra Public Library about Bangabandhu and Liberation War.
The upazila administrations also observed the day through similar programmes throughout the nine upazila in the district.
In Rajshahi, the National Mourning Day was observed in Rajshahi city and its adjoining districts with due respect and solemnity, reports our Rajshahi Correspondent.
City unit of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations garlanded the portrait of Bangabandhu paying rich tribute to him at the city unit office. Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and others were present on the occasion.
The district administration brought out a mourning procession in the city. Later, a discussion and Doa Mahfil was held. AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Divisional Commissioner Nur-Ur-Rahman and others addressed the meeting with Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque in the chair.
The upazila administration and upazila units of AL and its front organisations and Muktijoddha Sangsad have also adopted day-long programmes to observe the day.
In Manikganj, the district and upazila administrations observed the by holding discussion, milad mahfil and other programmes, reports our Manikganj Correspondent.
Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj SM Ferdous, Police Super Rifat Rahman Shamin, Chairman of Zila Parishsad and district AL President Gulam Mohiuddin, Mayor of Manikganj Municipality Gazi Karul Huda Selim and various socio-cultural and political organisations and educational institutions paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at the Central Sheed Minar in the district town in the morning.
A condolence rally was also brought out from the Shaheed Minar. MP from Manikganj contitiuncy-1 Naimur Rahman Durjoy led the rally. Later, a discussion was held where DC SM Ferdous attended as the chief guest.
In Pabna, the day was observed in the district in a befitting manner. Bera Upazila administration, Bera Upazila Awami League, different educational institutions, Bera Upzila Health Complex chalked out elaborate programs to observe the day, reports our Bera Correspondent.
A mourning rally was brought in the upazila. MP from Pabna-1 constituency and former State Minister of Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Huq Tuku, Bera Upazila chairman and freedom fighter Abdul Kader, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asif Anam Siddique joined rally.
In Kushtia, VC of Islamic University Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag at half-mast while Pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the black flag atop of the university administration building around 9.30am, reports our IU Correspondent.
A mourning procession was also brought out on the campus around 10:00 am. IU Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha, Shapla Forum’s President Prof Dr M Rizwanul Islam and IU BCL general secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib took part in the procession, among others.
Later, the VC, Teachers Association, Officers Association, Shapla Forum, Bangabandhu Parisad, Chhatra League and others paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at his mural ‘Mrittunjoyee Mujib’ on the campus.
Meanwhile, IU BCL unit offered a special prayer around 11:00 am while university authority arranged a Daa Mahfil at central mosque on the campus after Zohor prayers.
In Narail, the National Mourning Day was observed in the district in a befitting manner, reports our Jashore Regional Correspondent
Pogrammes of the day were included as hoisting the National flag half mast in all buildings, placing floral wreaths at the sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Old bus terminal premises, discussion, milad and doa mahfil, food distribution among destitute, screening documentary on Bangabandhu in the town.
On the occasion prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition arranged by the district administration.
Meanwhile, Narail district unit of Awami League and its front organisations observed the day by holding various programmes.
Mashrafe Bin Mortuza MP, Deputy Commissioner Anjuman Ara, Zila parishad chairman Advocate Sorab Hossain, Police Super Md. Jashim Uddin were present at different programmes of the day.
