Several districts in Bangladesh, including Feni, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Lakshmipur, and Khagrachari, have been severely impacted by devastating floods, leaving hundreds of thousands stranded without electricity. In response, national cricket team members Towhid Hridoy, Nurul Hasan Sohan, and Shariful Islam have called for support to aid the flood victims.
These cricketers have taken to social media to urge everyone to stand by those affected. Despite their busy schedules—Hridoy playing for the ‘A’ team and Shariful for the national team in Pakistan, while Sohan remains in Bangladesh—they have shared a post with a picture, although there is some discussion that the image was created using AI technology.
Shariful, part of the playing XI in the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, took two crucial wickets on the first day, dismissing Shan Masood and Babar Azam. Later that night, he shared a verse from the Quran on his official Facebook page, seeking help for the flood victims.
Hridoy, though not physically present, expressed his solidarity and hope that others would come forward to overcome this disaster. He shared his feelings of helplessness at not being able to be directly involved in the relief efforts but mentioned that he has sent friends to work on the ground. He emphasized the need for continuous support even after the water recedes, urging everyone to contribute in any way they can, whether it be providing boats, medicine, clean water, or dry food.
Sohan, moved by the images of the flood-affected people, wrote about feeling utterly helpless and prayed for divine assistance for those in distress.
Additionally, Rubel Hossain, a pacer who has been out of the national team for a while, questioned the source of the excessive water and why all the gates were opened late at night. He expressed his frustration, wondering if the impoverished country would ever get answers to these questions.
