Naseem Ali Khan, one of the founding vocalists of the legendary band Souls, has officially announced his departure, marking the end of a remarkable 45-year journey with the iconic group.
His absence from Souls’ US tour in March earlier this year had already sparked speculation about his future with the band. The tour, which celebrated the band's 50th anniversary, took place without Naseem, who cited personal reasons for his absence at the time. When he also missed the band's subsequent tours in the UK and Australia, rumours about his departure began to intensify. Now, the vocalist has confirmed the news, bringing an end to his long-standing association with the band.
Explaining his decision, Naseem said, "As a businessman, it has become increasingly difficult for me to travel abroad or be away from Dhaka for long periods. With Souls' 50th anniversary, the band’s schedule has become busier with more performances. My business commitments in Dhaka have made it tough to keep up."
For years, Naseem has tried to balance his career in music with his business ventures. However, he admitted that managing both had become nearly impossible. "While I will no longer be part of the band, I will always support Souls if they ever need me," he added.
Souls' leader, Partha Barua, acknowledged the impact of Naseem's departure, saying, "Naseem bhai’s business commitments made it difficult for him to continue with the band, and his absence will certainly be felt. However, we understand and support his decision."
Naseem’s journey with Souls began in 1978, when he joined as a guest member. He officially became a core member in 1980, contributing to the band’s signature sound for over four decades. Though he is stepping away from Souls, Naseem assured his fans that he will continue his musical journey as a solo artist.
With his departure, Souls faces a significant change, but Naseem’s legacy within the band will forever remain a key part of its history.
