On December 10 in 1971, the freedom-fighters of Narail defeated the Pakistani forces and liberated Narail from them. The freedom-loving people of Narail did not back down from the call for independence made in the speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At that time, the residence of SDO in Narail was made the headquarters of the local liberation war. On the morning of April 6, the Pakistani occupation forces fired machine guns and bombs at Narail from two jets, causing heavy damage and leaving Narail depopulated. On 13 April, a group of raiding forces shot and wounded Montu, a restaurant owner at Chawrasta area in Narail town and captured Haripada Sardar, Kalu Bose of Bhatia village and Prafullo Mitra of Saraspur village and killed them near Daitala bridge.
Meanwhile, on the initiative of Captain Doha training camps were opened at Itna and Ariara in Lohagara. The Pak aggressors and their accomplices killed 58 women, men and children of Itna village in Lohagora by carrying out a brutal operation from the camp of the aggressors in Bhatiapara.
From the brief history of the liberation war it is known that with the participation of thousands of freedom-loving people a strong base of freedom fighters was formed in Narail. The freedom fighters fought fierce battles with the Pak-bahini and their allies in different areas.
Only on the banks of the Chitra river (East side of main post office) in Narail more than three thousand freedom fighters were killed by the Pakistani military and razakars. Besides, some school teachers were arrested and buried inside Narail town water Development Board premises.
The freedom fighters entered Narail on December 8. Earlier, on December 7, the freedom fighters gathered at Machimdia village in Narail and launched an attack on the police-razakars. After this incident, on December 9 the freedom fighters launched an attack from the south side of the Narail Government Victoria College.
On that day, 40 Pak soldiers stationed in the Water Development Board premises were ordered to surrender, but they refused to do. At that time when the members of the liberation forces started firing from all sides the Pak military was forced to surrender. Here one Pak military was killed and the others were sent to jail.
Ignoring the severe winter night the freedom fighters kept on celebrating victory in the town at night long and the town was shaken by the slogan ‘Joy Bangla Slogan’ and at 10:15 pm on December 10 Narail was declared free from Pak aggression.
