Narail-2 constituency’s MP Mashrafee Bin Mortuza inaugurated the re-excavation of the Nabaganga river which flowing over Lohagara upazila in Narail at Gazipara Mallikpur area on Wednesday afternoon.
Narail Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anjuman Ara, Water Development Board Executive Engineer Shahnawaz, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Imran Hossain, Lohagora Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mukul Kumar Maitra, District Jubo League convener Md. Ohiduzzaman were present in river re-excavation inaugural session.
Water Development Board sources said that to protect the balance of the environment including speedy drainage, promotion of trade through boats, increase of fishery production and development of the socio-economic life of the people, at a meeting of the ECNEC on August 20,2019 the cost of taka 303 crore from Telkara in Kotakol Union to Naldi under Lohagora upazila 34- kilometer Nabaganga river re-excavation project was approved.
To implement the project Narail Water Development Board sets boundaries according to the land survey (CS,1962) records of the river Nabaganga. The tender was then called to work on the project. Work will be done through the contractor by 9 packages. On Wednesday afternoon, 1.5 km of re excavation work was inaugurated on Package No.W-9 / 2019-20.
At the inauguration, hundreds of men and women, who had lived in the river bank for a long time demanding their rehabilitation to MP Mashrafee.
At that time, MP Mashrafee and Deputy Commissioner Anjuman Ara assured them of rehabilitation. MP Mashrafee Bin Mortuza then attendend Lohagora upazila Awami League’s views exchange meeting at Lohagara Community Center. President of Lohagara Upazila AL Munshi Alauddin, general secretary Syed Mashiyur Rahman, Vice-President Faizul Haque Rome, Joint secretary general Sajjad Hossain Munna, Chhatra League Lohagara upazila unit general secretary MM Rashedul Hasan Rashed were present in the meeting .
