Some important decisions have been taken by the city corporation, district administration, police administration, road and township department, leaders of transport organizations, journalists and various professional leaders to solve the main problem of the eighth divisional city of the country.
In the implementation of which short, medium and long term plans have been adopted. Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor Md Ikramul Haque Titu has sought the sincere cooperation of all in implementing the difficult decision to ensure the smooth and easy movement of all the people including the city dwellers. A consensus meeting was held at 11:30 am on Thursday at the Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium in the City Corporation area to resolve the traffic congestion organized by Mymensingh City Corporation.
At the meeting, it was decided that after May 21, vehicles carrying bricks, sand and any other goods will not be allowed to move inside Mymensingh city from 8 am to 8 pm. Also, no CNGO will be able to enter the city from Friday
The meeting decided to control the movement of autobikes and autorickshaws. For this a committee of 6 members was formed. As per the recommendation of the committee, autorickshaws and autobikes will run from June 1. Besides, it was decided to take necessary steps to shift the Trishal bus stand in the inner city to Maskanda to prevent traffic congestion.
The mayor, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, executive engineer of roads and townships and leaders of transport organizations will visit the Maskanda bus stand and take necessary action as per the decision.
President of the meeting Mymensingh City Corporation said, "We want to be a traffic free city.
Traffic congestion has increased in this city for many reasons, but it has to be eliminated at any cost.”
The mayor said mobile court activities would be intensified to prevent the placing of construction materials on the roads, eviction of sidewalks and eviction of illegal structures on the roads to bring ease in the life of the citizens. The mayor also requested the Roads and Urban Development Department to take necessary steps for widening of roads from the bridge to Kewatkhali, widening of inner city roads and construction of flyovers or overpasses at railway crossings. Nazrul Islam, BRTA Officer, Traffic Inspector Abu Naser Md. Zaheer, Shankar Saha, Senior Vice President of The Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rakibul Islam Shahin, President of Battery Powered Autobike Owners Association were present.
