Mustaque Ahmed, the spin bowling coach will no longer with the Bangladesh team when he did not want to recommence his agreement.
Mustaque, the former Pakistan prolific spin bowler was included as Bangladesh spin bowling coach for a short stint, just for the ICC T20 World Cup replacing Sri Lankan Rangana Herath.
Mustaque joined as the Tigers spin bowling coach in April ahead of the Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh, and worked just for three months and now is going to join in his new job with the England’s youth (Under-19) team coach.
Under Mustaque Ahmed, Bangladesh’s spin bowlers did well in the ICC T20 World Cup, specially, the legspinniner Rishad Hossain’s performance was outstanding in the tournament in USA and West Indies.
Bangladesh spinners claimed 18 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 when Rishad, only the les-pinner in the team picked up 14 in an average of 13.85.
Mustaque’s international career that spanned from 1990 until 2003, claimed 185 wickets in 58 Test matches and 161 in 144 in One Day Internationals.
Though, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was eager to get Mustaque for a long period but the Pakistani legendary legspin specialist ended his short term agreement with the BCB.
Mustque was the last man who joined with Bangladesh cricket team’s coaching staff, head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe, assistant coach Nic Pothas, batting coach David Hemp and fast bowling coach Andre Adams, left the team as the first man.
Mushtaque, who was one of the key members of the Pakistan World Cup 1992 winning team, was longest time as a spin bowling coach in his career when he worked with the England national (men's) team for six years (2008 to 2014). He also worked in two stints for his native Pakistan bowling consultant for two years (2014-2016) and another two years as spin bowling coach of the country from 2020 to 2022.
