Mushtaq inspires Tigers to face Pakistan pace menace

Bangladesh spin coach Mushtaq Ahmed has called on his charges to believe in themselves as they prepare to lock horns with Pakistan's formidable pace attack in a two-Test

series starting in Rawalpindi on August 21.

The Tigers are currently putting the finishing touches to their preparations in the Pakistani capital, with the subcontinent side well aware of the challenges that await them. Pakistan boasts one of the most feared pace batteries in world cricket, and their home record is nothing short of intimidating.

Mushtaq, however, is keen to instil confidence in the Bangladesh batting line-up. "To handle Pakistan's pace, we must first believe in ourselves," he said. "Each player needs to believe they can contribute to a team victory. This self-belief is paramount. Once we've assessed the conditions, we can decide on the optimal pace bowling options."

The former Pakistan international was also complimentary about Bangladesh's own pace bowling resources. "We have some promising fast bowlers emerging," he said. "There are four or five who look really good in the nets. They're heading in the right direction, but it will take time to reach their full potential."

Meanwhile, Mushtaq expressed optimism about the Test prospects of key duo Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto. "Inshallah, if they continue to learn and believe in themselves, they can make a significant impact and help Bangladesh win matches overseas," he added.

With the series opener just days away, the Tigers are focused on adapting to the conditions in Rawalpindi. "We'll finalise the playing XI once we've got a good look at the pitch," Mushtaq confirmed. "Spin will undoubtedly play a role, but if the conditions favour pace, we have the bowlers to exploit that."
