Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club have started their Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League T20 journey on a winning note. Mushfiqur Rahim, who batted well in the Sri Lanka series, also batted superbly to beat Abahani.
Abahani faced Partex Sporting Club at the Sher-e-Bangla in Mirpur on Monday and won the match by 7 wickets in Duckworth-Lewis method.
Partex, who batted first on the day, lost five wickets in the allotted 20 overs to score 120 runs. Later, due to rain, Abahani needed just 70 runs for victory and they scored 70 runs in 10 overs. With 4 balls to spare and losing 3 wickets, Abahani reached the target.
Playing with a target of 70 runs, team leader Mushfiqur won the match by batting aggressively. He remained unbeaten on 26-ball 36 with three fours and a six. Besides, opener Mohammad Naim scored 19 runs from 17 balls.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Partex could score only 120 runs after an unbeaten innings of 65 by captain Tasamul Haque. He hit 9 fours during his quickfire 54 balls. Moin Khan scored 22 runs.
Abahani bowler Taizul Islam gave away just 12 runs in his 4 allotted overs with and scalped 2 wickets. Mehdi Hasan Rana also bagged a brace of wickets.
Meanwhile, in another game, Mohammedan Sporting Club have suppressed the young-studded Shinepukur Cricket Club from the very beginning. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan played a pivotal role in the victory. He met the demand of the team with the both the bat and bowl after bowling brilliantly, Shakib okayed a big role while chasing the run. However, the match was decided in the thrill of the last over as Shinepukur came back into the match dramatically.
Shinepukur batted first in the Dhaka Premier League T20 at BKSP ground number four on Monday and scored only 126 runs. Mohammedan chased that total by just one bowl and three wickets to spare. Shakib scalped 2 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs. He made 29 runs off 22 balls.
