National team stalwart batsman Mushfiqur Rahim had to leave the field due to a shoulder injury during Day 2 of the second Test match against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday. In the 53rd over of the innings, Mohammad Rizwan played a straight drive off Hasan Mahmud. Positioned at mid-off, Mushfiqur dived to stop the ball and sustained the injury.
Mushfiqur received initial treatment on the field, but it soon became clear that he could not continue playing. Accompanied by the physio, he left the field, clutching his shoulder.
In the very next over, Shakib Al Hasan brought joy to the team by trapping Babar Azam leg-before-wicket. Using his signature arm ball, Shakib deceived one of Pakistan's top batters. The ball did not turn as Babar expected, striking his pad instead. As soon as Shakib appealed, the umpire raised his finger.
Just two balls later, Shakib nearly claimed another wicket. Agha Salman edged the ball to short leg, where Zakir was positioned, but the fielder missed the catch. Despite this, Bangladesh can be satisfied with the session, having taken four wickets. Pakistan managed only 84 runs in 30 overs, making this session more successful for Bangladesh compared to the first.
Earlier, Pakistan had crossed the 100-run mark in the first over of the second session. However, Bangladesh struck back soon after. The first breakthrough came in the third over when Pakistan captain Shan Masood, who scored 57 runs, was trapped leg-before-wicket by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Even a review could not save him.
Saim Ayub was playing proper Test cricket, but Miraz set a trap for him to play a big shot. Ayub stepped out of the crease to slog but missed the ball, which was moving away. The ball went straight to wicketkeeper Liton, who executed a perfect stumping.
Saud Shakeel could have been dismissed for a duck. He edged a ball from Nahid Rana to slip, but Miraz missed the catch. Shakeel, who scored a century in his first Test, was progressing with 16 runs off 28 balls. However, Taskin did not let him go further. The ball edged the bat and hit the stumps, making Shakeel Taskin's second wicket of the day.
