In Cox's Bazar's Teknaf, a brother-in-law was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law over 'rice lending' issue. The police have arrested a suspect involved in the incident.

Teknaf Police Station OC Osman Gani said that the incident occurred at 9 am on Wednesday in Pandal neighborhood of Sabrang Union of Teknaf Upazila. Deceased Shah Alam (28) is the son of deceased Sultan Ahmad of the same area.

The arrested Rashid Ahmad (20) is the son of Zafar Alam of the same area and nephew of the deceased.

OC Osman Gani said deceased's relatives and locals informed that Shah Alam's wife borrowed two kilogrammes of rice from her elder sister a few days back. She paid the borrowed rice on Tuesday evening.

But a quarrel took place between Shah Alam's wife and elder sister claiming that the paid rice was inferior to the borrowed rice. Later on Wednesday morning, a quarrel ensued between Shah Alam and brother-in-law Jafar Alam. At one stage they got involved in a fight. ‘Dulabhai’ stabbed Brother-in-law Shah Alam indiscriminately and fled the scene.

The OC said, "Later, locals rescued Shah Alam and brought him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex. At that time, the doctor on duty at the hospital sent him to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital as his condition was deteriorating."

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital Ashiqur Rahman said that a stabbed young man was brought to the hospital from Teknaf at 12 noon on Wednesday. But he died on the way before reaching the hospital.

He said that the body of the deceased has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
