A murder case has been filed against 54 people, including former Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, former SP Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir and former ASP Sadar Circle Kazi Moniruzzaman, in connection with the killing of a youth in Debhata upazila of Satkhira.
Deceased's brother Rabiul Islam filed the case with Satkhira Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-7 on Thursday afternoon. Court judge Mohitul Islam took cognisance of the case and ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station concerned to consider it as an FIR.
The other accused in the case include then ASP Kaliganj Circle Moniruzzaman, Debhata Police Station OC Tarak Biswas, SI Ziaul Haque, Sheikh Ali Akbar, Tapan Kumar Singh, Yunus Ali Gazi, PSI Tanveer Hasan, ASI FM Tarek, ASI Madan Mohan Adhikari, constable Debashish Adhikari, Jahangir, Gautam Saha, Anwar, Abdullah, Ismail, Mahafuzul Haque, Abu Zafar, Shahidul, Rezaul, Ibrahim, Shah Jahan, Abul Hashem, Hadis Uddin, A Majid, Dalil Uddin, Noor Islam, Manjurul, Mehdi, and Nazrul Islam, Mujibur Rahman and Momin Gazi of Debhata village and people of other villages.
According to the case, on January 14, 2014, Anarul Islam, son of Abdul Hannan of Nangla village in Debhata, was working in his own fishery enclosure. At that time, when the police tried to arrest Anarul Islam with the help of the mentioned persons for premeditated murder, he ran for his life and the police allegedly shot him dead. However, under the orders of the mentioned persons, torture continued until death was confirmed. On the contrary, a case was filed against the deceased Anarul Islam. Due to the different political context at that time, he did not have the courage to file a case. However, the plaintiff Rabiul Islam has claimed that since the situation has improved after Sheikh Hasina's resignation, he has filed the case demanding justice.
