Munshiganj-3 MP Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das visited the area affected by Padma erosion to see the suffering of the people living outside Beribadh in Ward No. 1, 2 and 3 of Banglabazar Union of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. At around 11 o'clock on Friday, he visited the break area of Padma River in Banglabazar Union of Sadar.
Sardarkandi, Sambhu Haldar Kandi of this union, three villages of East Mahishpur, often more than two hundred families have lost their livelihood.
Hundreds of families have lost their homes due to the erosion of the Padma River and are living a miserable life. Residential houses and hundreds of acres of cropland are disappearing due to erosion.
Meanwhile, all the residents of the riverbank are spending their days in fear of collapse. The locals complained that even after several days of the demolition, neither the local public representatives nor the officials of the district administration came to their side.
On the fourth day of the demolition, the local parliament members and district administration officials visited the site on Friday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Snehasish Das, Upazila Executive Officer Hussain Md. Al Junaid, Assistant Commissioner Lands (Sadar) Hachibur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Director of Water Development Board Rakibul Islam and others.
Meanwhile, several villages of Bangla Bazar Union are under threat due to severe erosion. Locals said that due to the illegal extraction of sand from the river, every year when the monsoon starts, the houses and agricultural land of the union are disappearing into the river at the dangerous banks of the Padma river.
After inspecting the damaged area, Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Member of Parliament of Munshiganj-3 Constituency, said that appropriate measures will be taken to prevent the river from breaking. Talk to the Water Development Board to talk to the Water Development Board about dropping geo bags quickly to protect habitations, cropland.
Along with this, necessary measures will be taken to stop the illegal extraction of sand in the middle of the river Padma.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Snehasish Das said, we will take urgent steps to prevent the Padma river from breaking. For the time being Jio bags need to be thrown away to prevent breakage. Action will be taken by talking to the Water Development Board in this regard.
According to the Water Development Board, a team will be sent tomorrow to survey the depth of the Padma river due to the breach. As per need we will think of putting Jio bag. We will soon take necessary measures to prevent breakage.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hussain Muhammad Al Junayed said, we are arranging dry food for the affected families.
