Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar urged to develop children as multilingual on Sunday.
He said, 'Existence without language cannot be imagined. If children do not receive education in their mother tongue, it is difficult for them to develop. But we are not only citizens of Bangladesh, we are now international citizens.
Communication, transportation, economy, the whole world has now become a unified subject.
The Primary and Mass Education Adviser said, 'We need to practice other languages to become international citizens. So our children should be made multi-lingual. Then they will become a great asset for the country in the future.
He said these at the inauguration of the day-long programme organised to celebrate 'International Literacy Day 2024' at the Non-formal Education Bureau Auditorium at Tejgaon in the capital on Sunday.
With the theme 'Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Peace and Reconciliation', the day is celebrated in Bangladesh like other countries of the world with due dignity.
Adviser of Primary and Mass Education inaugurated the main programme of 'International Literacy Day 2024' by releasing balloons, festoons and pigeons’.
Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said, 'Education is the right of people. Article 17 of the Constitution of Bangladesh enacted in 1972 made education free and compulsory up to the specific level. We received the UNESCO award in 1998 for this success in literacy. Progress in literacy is not as expected.
He said, 'We have taken up the scheme of unpaid education and compulsory education. Not only free education, we are giving stipends, books, lunches in some schools; Trying to expand it further.'
The Primary and Mass Education Advisor also said, 'We don't just want to make people literate, we also want to make them skilled. Literacy is an important issue. A person's personality changes through literacy.'
