Multifarious agri prog changes life in Narsingdi Char people

Thousands of extremely poor people in twelve remote char unions of Sadar and Raipura upazilas of Narsingdi district have successfully overcome their abject poverty through multifarious agricultural programme.

Sources with Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said most of the char people here have achieved success and overcome poverty through farming of paddy, groundnut, sweet potato and various vegetables in the vast tracts of sandy barren char lands of Megnaha and ArialKhan rivers vasin.

Beside a number of poor people living in the char villages of the district have also achieved self-reliance through multifarious agriculture as rearing of livestock in the char land and fish farming and duck rearing in the rivers.

Deputy Director of DAE Narsingdi Shovan Kamur Dhar told BSS that the department provided training to the farmers of char villages on multifarious agriculture activities have brought about a revolutionary changes in the rural economy in the char villages of the district.

Chairman of Raipura upazila parishad Abu Saddek said before taking up the multifarious agriculture as the means as their subsistence at least half of them were in object poverty in the erosion prone sandy chars of the Meghna, Brahamaputra and Arial khan rivers basin in Narsingdi district

Now, they are leading a completely changed life with achieving hygienic sanitation. Their children are now going to schools and madrasas regularly.
