A discussion programme titled ‘Mrittunjoyee Mujib’, marking Bangabandhu’s 48th Martyrdom anniversary and national mourning day was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Sunday. The IU Bangabandhu Parishad arranged the event at Birshrestho Hamidur Rahman auditorium on the campus around 11:00am.
Mahbubul Hanif, Member of Parlaiment and joint secretary of Bangladesh Awami League attended the programme as a chief guest while IU Vice chancellor Prof Dr. Shaikh Abdus Salam was the chief discussant. Abdul Hyee, Member of Parliament Jhenaidah-1 and AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha, Member of Parlaiment Kushtia-1, attended here as special guest while Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr. M Mahbubur Rahman and Treasurer Prof Dr. Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya were present as honorable guests. The guests put a tribute by a floral wreath to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait ‘Mrittunjoyee Mujib’ at the main entrance on the campus. Later, they inaugurated the blood donation program at the Arts faculty building.
Professor Dr M Jahangir Hossen, acting president of IU Bangabandhu Parishad chaired the discussion programme. Bangabandhu Parishad secretary Professor Dr Mahbubul Arfin conducted the programme while Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, convener of Bangabandhu Parishad national mourning day observation committee, delivered the welcome speech. Teachers of different departments and officers of the university and more than one thousand BCL leaders and activists took part here.
Speaking as a chief guest MP Hanif said, “Bangabandhu is an inseparable word in Bangladesh. It is unbelievable and no one can imagine that Bangabandhu would be killed in an independent country. Some mercenaries’ soldiers of defeated forces in the great liberation war committed this murder. He demanded the Law Minister to build up a commission of inquiry into Bangabandhu's murder to uncover the real rough-neck who committed this heartrending incident.”
“The people of the country are with Sheikh Hasina and no one evil force can remove her position. We do not want Bangladesh to be a militant state. Freedom is written in our blood, and will not be defeated by any plot. The people are the owners of the state power of this country. So, we will take the country forward under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
