Barrister Selim Altaf George, MP from Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksa) constituency and presidium member of Jubo League, donated a pick-up truck for law enforcement agency members from his own fund.
Barrister Selim Altaf George handed over the key of the pick-up truck through a brief function to Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumakhali Police station Mujibur Rahman on Tuesday noon.
Among others, the function was attended by Mayor of Kumarkhali Municipality, AL leader Shamsuzzaman Arun, Organising Secretary of Upazila AL Salah Uddin Khan Tareque, SI Shariful Islam, Director of Rana Textiles Masud Rana and ASI Hanasur Rahman.
Officer-in-charge Mujibur Rahman informed, with the help of the pick-up police will now be able to ensure law and order round the clock and sufferings of police in reaching distant places will now be removed. He thanked Barrister Selim Altaf for providing the pick-up to police.
It is learnt, Barrister Selim Altaf MP also distributed bicycles among meritorious-poor students, wheelchairs for the disabled, sewing machines among distressed women and blankets for winter hit people of his constituency. He also laid foundation stones of two connecting bridges on Bhaluka- Beltola-Sheikhpara-Khagrabaria-Dharamtola roads at a cost of Taka 100 million.
During the inaugural function of the bridges, Barrister Selim Altaf MP said, Awami league was the strongest organisation in the sub-continent. Daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina was developing the country by holding the rudder of the boat in strong-hands. He mentioned, no fundamentalist party except the Awami League will be able to cling to the power of the country. Various fundamentalist parties including Jamaat, BNP were trying to create anarchy in the country through religious instigations. They want to ascend to power by using religion. He called upon the leaders and activists of the party to remain alert about the nasty ploy of the fundamental groups and to work for the boat.
