Three people were killed, and three others injured, in a head on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto rickshaw on Noakhali-Feni regional highway on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as CNG-run auto rickshaw driver Jashim Uddin, 55, his mother Moriyomi Begum, 80, and a passenger of the vehicle Sokina Begum, 52. The identities of the injured could not be known immediately.
The incident occurred at Noakhali-Feni regional highway in Dokanghar area under Durgapur union of Begumganj upazila at around 10:30am.
Locals said the CNG-run auto rickshaw driver Jashim was going to Jamirhat from Chowmuhani in his vehicle along with his mother and four other passengers. A Lakshmipur bound bus named Star Line was coming from Feni at that time. When the bus reached at Dokanghar under ward no. 6 of Durgapur union, it rammed into the CNG-run auto rickshaw from the front. The CNG-run auto rickshaw was completely destroyed as a result and Jashim, his mother Moriyomi Begum, as well as a passenger Sokina Begum died at the spot.
Later, locals reached the spot and rescued the other three injured persons. They took them to the local hospital for treatment. On information, police from Begumganj Model Police Station and Chandragonj Highway Police Station reached the spot.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandragonj Highway Police Station Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter and said that they could not catch the bus driver as he fled the scene. However, they seized both the vehicles. The families of the deceased took the bodies to their houses. The police will go to their houses and hold the inquest. Further action will be taken if the families of the victims make complaint.
