All set for the most coveted election of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) to be held today at a local hotel in the city, followed by the AGM election will take place at 2pm.
Meanwhile, the chief election commission of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) officially published the final candidates list on Sunday with their ballot numbers of the polls.
After the final list of the election commissioner, now there are two contestants for the president’s post, one for senior vice-president and six for four vice-president posts. Thirty-seven contestants will compete for 15 member posts.
A total of 133 councilors will exercise their voting rights to elect 21-member executive body of the BFF for next four years to lead the development of the country’s football.
But this time there is no excitement with the BFF election, as it was seen in the previous elections, specially since 2008.
Although there were so much discussions, scandals and rumors with the BFF election have been going on for last few months, but after the announcement of incumbent president Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin not to compete, no temptation and eagerness left with the polls, one of the biggest sports organisations of the country.
Football fans, organisers and the concerned people, who always waiting to watch a sporting and festive atmosphere with the BFF election, which takes place every four years interval, will not have this time.
Some of the organisers, who have close involvement with the country’s football and some times they also participated in the BFF elections, when talking to the Bangladesh Post on Friday, said – “Actually this time we don’t feel any excitement or enthusiasm.”
“If you look at the two contenders for the post of president, the most vital post of the BFF election will get a huge difference between the two candidates.
One of the president candidates, Tabith Awal had involvement with the BFF activities for a long time, he was two times vice-president and last time was defeated just a difference for one vote.”
“Tabith is a familier figure in the football arena, he has also involvement with football clubs, like Arambagh KS and Feni Soccer, who played in the top tire of the Bangladesh football, even he is a former football player. But his opponent AFM Mizanur Rahman, man of Dinazpur is not a well-known in this arena. May be most of the concerned people have come to know his name first time. Though he is an organizer of grass roots,” said the organiser.
“Interestingly, Mizanur Rahman, the lone competitor of Tabith Awal, had been not looked serious about the polls, as he was not expose at the election field,” the organiser added.
In fact, Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, who previously declared his intention of fighting for the president's post a day after incumbent president Kazi Salahuddin had announced that he would not run for a fifth term, but later withdrew his nomination, throwing his weight behind president candidate Tabith Awal.
Tarafdar, who has been associated with some sports organisations and also had a club of top league and earned some familiarity, has withdrawn his candidature.
Tarafder, a business back-ground man, owner of now-defunct Saif Sporting Club also withdrew his candidature for senior vice-president's post.
Taraafdar’s withdrawal leaves two contestants for the president's post, one for senior vice-president, just made the BFF election a monotonous game.
