Popular Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim will feature in the title role of Education Minister of West Bengal and actor Bratya Basu’s next directorial movie titled ‘Hubba’. The film will be about an underworld don in the state’s Hoogly district. Mosharraf Karim was a part of Bratya Basu’s previous feature film Dictionary, which won the best international film at the 4th Nepal International Film Festival.

Mosharraf Karim will be appearing in the director’s forthcoming movie along with Abir Chatterjee, Nusrat Jahan, Phalguni Chatterjee and Poluami Basu, Bratya Basu said.

According to the director Basu, the proposed film titled ‘Hubba’ will be a ‘political’ project and will be about a gangster who was active in Hoogly from 1990s till his body was found in a canal in 2011. He said the gangster had filed his nomination for Konnagar municipal body election but later withdrew from the contest.

The director also said movie ‘Hubba’ would focus on politics-underworld nexus in the era of globalization. Hubba Shyamal is popularly known as Dawood Ibrahim in Hooghly of India who became a gangster in the late 1990s. Hubba Shyamal enjoyed the sole authority in the dark world of gangsters in Hooghly district.

He was sued in at least 30 cases, including cases for murder, kidnapping and drug trafficking. Despite being arrested several times, he secured bail.

After going missing in 2011, Hubba Shyamal's decomposed body was found floating in the Vaidyabati canal. He was shot dead.

Bratya Basu said that he wants to portray the changing landscape of Bengal's politics in the era of globalization. There will be a mix of comedy with crime in this film.
