Molasses import by rly from India starts

After a long gap due to demand in the country, import of molasses from India has started again by rail at Hili Land Port. The amount of imported molasses is 2,007 tonnes from which the railway authorities got revenue of Tk 20 lakh.

A wagon loaded with 50 molasses from Uttar Pradesh, India, entered the country through the Benapole border. This consignment arrived at the Hili Railway Station at 8:30 am on Wednesday. Messrs Anwarul Haque of Joypurhat is importing these molasses. Anwarul Haque, an importer from Chattogram, said that several sugar mills in different parts of the country have been shut down due to recent losses. As a result, the supply has decreased due to low production of molasses. There is a good demand for molasses in the country's market. Molasses is being imported by rail from India to meet that demand. Last year, once molasses was imported by rail, then it was closed for one year, but the import has started again.

He further said that these imported molasses are being supplied to various factories for making food for cattle, chickens and fish. However, there is a lot of trouble in importing goods by road. There is no space inside the Panama Port of Hili Land Port, the car can't get out on time. There is a lot of trouble like this. 

On the contrary, there is no problem in importing by rail. Due to which molasses is being imported by rail.

Hili Railway Station Master Tapan Kumar said that after a long gap, the import of molasses from India by rail has started again in Hili. 

Molasses was imported in 50 wagons at the station on Wednesday morning. The amount of imported molasses is 2,007 tonnes from which the railway authorities got revenue of 20 lakh Tk.
