Mohammedan’s triumph in the Fed Cup final 2022-23 is widely considered a ‘footballing fairytale’ and subsequently attracted soccer fans attention of whole country.
The win is a huge contentment and glorifying for Mohammedan, as they just snatched the victory defeating their arch-rivals Abahani Limited coming from behind for twice.
The victory also glorified the Black and Whites when they just outshined the strongest and dominating sides Bashundhara Kings and Abahani Limited in back to back to matches.
Mohammedan eliminated the Bashundhara Kings in the semifinal with a deserving win when the final against Abahani was a soft reminder for the both powerhouses that the Black and Whites are regaining their prides.
It was a final on Tuesday at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutt, that the fans of the both clubs and the millions of soccer fans expected such an attractive match between Mohammedan and Abahani, once they used to.
Mohammedan, since 2009, due to poor organizing ability and sometimes, because of internal club-politics failed to remain among the title contenders and that resulted the traditional team turned into to almost an ordinary side.
It is like a great revolution of Mohammedan Sporting Club to earn the feat of winning the Federation Cup title right after a decade outshining the favourites when they were almost out of sight in the domestic competition for the long interval. Mohammedan, after their triumphing the Fed Cup trophy back to back in 2008 and 2009 defeating Abahani in the both occasions, they could not be even runners since that.
Mohammedan, actually have been struggling in the domestic competition for a long in the both tournaments and league since 2009, their last time celebration was in the both Federation Cup championship and runners trophy league in 2009 and 2009-10 season.
Meanwhile, it was one of the most disappointing for Mohammedan that who could not win even for once the Professional Football League title since it’s inception in Bangladesh in 2007 when they won the runners up trophy in the first two editions in 2008 and 2009.
Mohammedan had also been going through too tough times that once they narrowly escaped from the relegation threat with finishing the table on eight place.
There is no way to justify the win as an upset or fluke, as Mohammedan just tipped off from the midway of the season that they would turn up with their real appearance when they drew with Abahani in their second leg match of the league after the leading by 1-0 up to 85th minute.
Now, if Mohammedan could keep up the momentum to turn into one of the strong contenders to win titles, domestic football will regain its attraction and the fans will again start to gather in the stadium.
The high-volume performances of Mohammedan is a good sign of country’s football and it is expected that the ‘good days’ are waiting for the country’s football.
