Unused data from mobile internet data packages from now on will be carried forward to subscriber's next package purchase.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has formulated a guideline in this connection which was officially announced at a programme held at BTRC auditorium on Tuesday.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar as the chief guest inaugurated the new guideline so that the customers can use their purchased packages as long as they wish.

At the public hearing on August 22 last year, the customers expressed their displeasure over the mobile data usage policy. BTRC formed a committee to formulate a new package policy in September. The BTRC then set a limit of a maximum of 95 data packages for mobile phone operators in three steps, ensuring the freedom of full data usage for customers with the participation of partners through nine meetings in six and a half months.

Similarly, the interval between two packages cannot be more than 100 MB of data or 10 minutes of talk time. Besides, all data packages can be valid for 3 days, 7 days, 15 days and 30 days. Regular packages are valid for a minimum of one month. If the customers purchase the same pack of different validity before the expiration of the package, they will be able to use the unused data of 3 days validity for full 30 days.

Post and Telecommunications Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman was the special guest at the programme presided over by BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder. Welcoming note was delivered by BTRC Vice President Subrata Kumar Maitra.

Representatives of all operators were present on the occasion. Representatives of Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink and Teletalk highlighted the progress of implementation of the package till date.

They said that they will be able to fully implement the new package by April 15.
