Faridpur Sadar Upazila Administration and the Officer-in-Charge of Purbagangabardi SFSTC jointly conducted a mobile court drive at various sawmills in Badarpur and Gangabardi areas under the extended municipal area of Faridpur on Wednesday morning.

During the operation led by Faridpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Masum Reza, a total fine of Tk 21,000 was imposed and extracted according to sawmill (License) rules 2012 from three organizations for operating sawmills without license and keeping tree trunks illegally on the side of the highway.

At the time, the owner of a saw mill was warned and instructions were given to remove the tree trunks from the side of the highway immediately.

Regarding the operation, UNO Md. Masum Reza said that under the instruction of Faridpur deputy commissioner, sawmills attached to the highways are being raided predominantly. They leave the tree trunks next to the highway. As a result, there are possibilities of criminal activities by dropping tree trunks on the highway.

Therefore, “No business can be done by keeping tree trunks next to the highway. We have given the sawmills two hours of time to remove the trunks from the side of the highway and not to keep the trunks there in the future, otherwise strict actions will be taken against them”.

The UNO again said that they also checked the license of sawmills during the raid. Since their raids last time, several organizations have applied for licenses.

Those who have not applied have been asked to apply and show their documents within this month. Otherwise, their mill will be closed down. The UNO added that they will continue this raids in the public interest.
