The Consumer Rights Protection Department has imposed a fine of Tk 70,000 on four businesses in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district. The fine has been imposed on a number of offenses including selling adulterated and low quality coconut oil by imitating the Parachute oil logo.
The fine was imposed by conducting raids on Jibannagar Bazar and Duttnagar Road on Wednesday afternoon. According to sources, the raids were carried out on Jibannagar Bazar and Duttnagar Road, selling fake coconut oil with fake Parachute oil logos, unhealthy processing and non-availability of price list for essential commodities.
The owner of the Botamghar was fined Tk 5,000. Later, adulterated coconut oil was dumped in the river.
Sajal Ahmed, assistant director of the Chuadanga office of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, said the raid was carried out on four businesses in Jibannagar on the basis of consumer complaints. They were fined a total of Tk 70,000 for several offenses.
