Bandarban district administration has declared 12 illegal brick kilns of the district closed through mobile courts and imposed a fine of Tk 16 lakh In Lama and Alikadam upazilas of the district.
During the day on Thursday, under the leadership of Executive Magistrates of the Deputy Commissioner's Office Md Kayesur Rahman and Mamunur Rashid, mobile courts were conducted in 11 brickfields of Lama Upazila and 1 brick kiln of Alikadam Upazila. In the wake of the order dated 25/01/2022 of the writ petition number 1204/2022 of the Hon'ble High Court Division, the district administration has declared the brickyards closed.
Md Ashfaqur Rahman, Inspector of Environment Department and Shaheen Parvez, Sub-Inspector of Lama Police Station were present during the conduct of the mobile court.
In addition to declaring 12 brick kilns closed, 12 brickfields were fined a total of Tk 16 lakh under various sections of the Brick Making and Kiln Installation (Control) Act, 2013 (Amended 2019). During this time, piles of raw bricks were destroyed with excavators as well as illegally installed brick kilns.
