Taking a tough stance towards reported cases of people not wearing masks in public places despite government order, the government is continuing mobile courts in order to ensure that people wear masks.
The government has asked the administration to strengthen the mobile court operation and enforce laws to ensure the use of masks, also in the capital, to check the raging Covid-19 pandemic. The local administration continued the mobile court drive across the country on Wednesday like previous day.
In Chattogram, mobile courts fined 80 people for not wearing facemasks. The mobile court raided Kotwali, New Market, Jamal Khan, GEC and Dampara areas of the city and imposed the fine, reports our Staff Correspondent, Ctg.
Chittagong District Administration Executive Magistrate Md Umar Faruq, Rezwana Afrin and Nurjahan Akhter Sathy led the operation.
Magistrate Md Umar Faruq led the operation in Kotwali and New Market areas of the city. He fined 53 people Tk 9,033 for not wearing masks.
Executive Magistrate Rezwana led the operation in the Jamal Khan and GEC junction areas of Afrin Nagar. He fined 20 people Tk 1,500 for not wearing masks. Executive Magistrate Nurjahan Akhter Sathy led the mobile court operation in the Dampara area of the city.
In Bogura, a mobile court sentenced three people to jail and fined 47 others for not wearing masks in Bogura on Wednesday. Bogura Executive Magistrates held them conducting separate mobile court drive at Satmatha and Matidali area in the district town, reports our Bogura Correspondent.
Executive Magistrates Papia Sultana and Nasim Reza conducted the drive at Satmatha in the town at 11:30 am. Members of the law enforcement forces were present at the time. Earlier on Tuesday, a mobile court jailed and fined seven people for the same reason.
Executive Magistrate Nasim Reza said that under the Infectious Diseases Act two people were sentenced to 1 day imprisonment for not wearing mask. He added that Executive Magistrate Papia Sultana had fined 30 people Tk 31,000 in 7 cases at the time.
On the other hand, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azizur Rahman conducted the mobile court at Matidali in the town. He conducted a raid at 1 pm, fined 17 people Tk 3,400 and sentenced one person to 7 days imprisonment. He said that the drive would continue to ensure compliance with masks in the town.
In Natore, a total of 40 people were detained in the Masjid Market area of Natore town on Wednesday afternoon in a campaign to raise awareness and ensure the use of masks in the second phase of the corona, reports our Natore Correspondent.
At the time, Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Saha said, “The campaign to ensure the use of masks is playing a very effective role. Punishment is not an effective measure. It is possible to deal with corona only through awareness. The campaign will be carried out in the entire district with the slogan 'No Mask No Service'. We believe that in the second wave, like the first wave, we will be able to deal with Corona”.
Later, the Superintendent of Police distributed masks among the detainees and warned them. Officers of different levels of police administration were present at the time.
