A body of a youth was recovered from the beach of Somiti Para coast at Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday, 29 hours after he went missing. The boy was visiting Cox’s Bazar on Eid and went to take a bath in the sea when he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Tarek, 14, resident of Shah Fakir Bazar area under Sadar Union of the newly-formed Eidgaon Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
Executive Magistrate of Cox's Bazar district administration's tourism cell Md Masud Rana said the body of the youth washed ashore at the beach of Somiti Para coast in Cox’s Bazar city at 6:00pm on Tuesday.
Md Masud Rana said 7 youths of Shah Fakir Bazar area of Eidgaon Upazila went to visit the sea beach on Monday morning after the Eid congregation. At one point during their visit, they went to take a bath in a place between the Kolatoli and Sugandha point of the beach. One youth was swept away by the low tide at that time. Seeing that, the other youths started screaming and calling for help. The people present in the beach tried to rescue the boy but failed to do it.
According to him, the locals informed them that a body washed ashore at the beach of Somiti para coast in Cox’s Bazar city around 5:00pm on Tuesday. On information, a team of beach workers reached the spot and rescued the body. Later, the relatives of the deceased identified it.
The Executive Magistrate said the body is in the custody of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station. It would be handed over to the relatives after conducting legal procedures.
