Targeting the third phase of the UP elections of Patuakhali’s Mirjagonj upazila is to be held in six unions on Nov-28, election campaigning at the urban and even in remote rural areas got an immense momentum.
With the massive election campaigning, there is only one discussion elsewhere in the unions about the elections and measuring the balances among the candidates, debates and counter-debates among voters and the supporters of various candidates in every road crossings, fields, villages, markets and tea-stalls.
Some of the voters are favoring the candidates with 'boat' symbol while others prefer the 'independent' candidates.
The Chairmen and member candidates of various unions are not getting time to take rest, eat and sleep.
With thousands of pledges, they are visiting houses of villages, markets, public places, holding meetings with the voters and their supporters and begging for votes.
Every haats, markets, roads and villages have been shrouded with posters of the candidates. Braving the cold of winter, the candidates are visiting house of the voters from early morning to the deep night.
It is learnt, in six unions of the upazila, 21 candidates are vying for the post of chairmen, 63 are for the male members and 185 are for member posts.
According to sources, for Deuli Subidkhali UP Anowar Hossain is contesting with Boat symbol with incumbent Chairman Abdul Aziz Howlader (Pine apple symbol) and Abdus Satter Mridha (hand fan symbol) for the post of Chairman.
In Madhabkhali union Kazi Mijanur Rahman Lablu with Boat symbol is contesting with incumbent chairman Monirul Islam Talukder (Spectacles), Abdul Malek Akon (Pine Apple) and five other candidates for the chairman post.
In Mirjaganj union incumbent chairman Monirul Haque Liton is contesting with the symbol boat against independent candidate Abul Bashar Nasir (Pine apple) and five more candidates for the post of Chairman.
In Amragachhia union incumbent chairman Sultan Ahmed is contesting with 'boat' symbol against independent candidate Babul Mallik (Pine apple) and Mijanur Rahman (Hand fan).
In Majid Baria union incumbent chairman Golam Sarwar Kislu is contesting with Boat symbol against independent candidate Shahidullah (Pine Apple), Abdul Latif Howlader (Hand fan) and four other candidates for the chairman post.
In Kakrabunia union Mahbub Alam Swapon with Boat symbol was declared uncontested elected.
