An 8-year-old girl was reportedly hacked to death by neighbours at Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali district on Saturday night.
The ill-fated child Mariyam, 8, was daughter of Makbul Mridha, a resident of Ramballav village under Ward no-4 of Betagi Sankipur union in the upazila.
The victim's mother Rina Begum said Mariyam went to play in the afternoon didn't returned home til night. When the family members and relatives started looking for her, they found Mariyam's blood-stained body in a beel near to the house. Being informed, police recovered the body from the spot on Saturday night and sent the body to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy on Sunday morning, said Md Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dashmina Police Station.
Makbul Mridha, father of the victim, said that he has been at loggerheads with the neighbours Harun Mridha, Razzak Mridha, Shahjahan Mridha, and Barek Mridha over the ownership of a piece of a land.
"They have been threatening me over the dispute for a long time. They might have killed my daughter to take revenge from me," he said.
"I want proper investigation of this killing and exemplary punishment of the killers," added the father.
The body bore stab wounds on head, however, the actual reason behind the death will be known after autopsy and legal action will be taken upon investigation, added OC Md Nurul Islam.
