The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education plans to register all private primary schools, including kindergartens, within a year. Currently, only 20 percent of these schools have registration or academic recognition.

Primary and Mass Education Secretary Farid Ahmed announced this initiative at a press conference at the Secretariat. The event also marked the launch of the Primary Education Medal-2023 and National Education Week.

Bangladesh has over one lakh primary schools, with 65,566 being government schools. The rest are private schools, including kindergartens. Most of these private schools operate independently without registration. Although there was a previous rule for registration, it was not effectively implemented.

The Ministry is now updating the process. Private schools will need to obtain registration and academic recognition according to set conditions. Schools cannot operate without these. The District Primary Education Officer will handle educational recognition, while the Deputy Director of Primary will manage the registration.

Secretary Farid Ahmed emphasized the ongoing efforts to register kindergarten schools. The number of nursery, kindergarten, and private schools slightly decreased, but this year saw an increase of about 800 schools, bringing the total to nearly 44,000. Due to field-level efforts, 20 percent of private schools now have recognition or registration, up from 8-9 percent just a few months ago.

The Ministry is confident that within the next year, all private primary schools will achieve registration and recognition, ensuring higher education standards across the country.
