The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has revealed seven priority programs aimed at reinvigorating Bangladesh's cultural scene. These initiatives, announced in a press conference on Friday, focus on engaging the youth and fostering cultural engagement across the nation.
The seven key programs include “Remembering Monsoon Revolution,” the “Tarunner Utsab” (Youth Festival), “Deshbyapi Protibha Sondhan” (Nationwide Talent Hunt), “Digital Oral History Project,” “Bangla Academy Creative Writing Workshop and Research Project,” “Modern Video Projection System for the National Museum,” and the “Show Creator Workshop.”
"Remembering Monsoon Revolution" aims to inspire the youth, with eight leading filmmakers conducting workshops in eight divisions, producing medium-length films. Additionally, eight new theatre productions will be created. A concert in Dhaka will feature Kazi Nazrul Islam’s songs, performed by popular artists, and broadcast nationwide alongside photography and visual arts displays.
The “Tarunner Utsab” will take place from December 30 to February 8, 2025, featuring cultural events nationwide to engage young minds in Bangladeshi culture. The “Nationwide Talent Hunt” will focus on discovering and nurturing new talent among the country’s youth.
The “Digital Oral History Project” will archive the experiences of participants in the “Monsoon Revolution,” preserving their stories for future generations. Meanwhile, Bangla Academy will offer creative writing workshops and research fellowships, while the National Museum's auditorium will be upgraded to feature international films and performances year-round.
A “Show Creator Workshop” will also be launched, providing training for young talents with support from international OTT platform experts.
Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostofa Sarwar Farooki emphasised the importance of inclusivity in these initiatives, celebrating Bangladesh’s diversity and ensuring cultural policies embrace all communities, regardless of faith or background.
