In Gurdaspur Upazila of Natore, soil is being extracted illegally and transported in trolleys. The traffic of these vehicles without regard to the rules and regulations is destroying the stability of the road in the Upazila. And the spilled soil is lying on the road due to transportation in open vehicles. The roads in the area are becoming slippery and dangerous.
In Chandrapur village of Nazirpur union of the upazila, soil is being cut for the renovation of a pond on the side of the road and is being taken to various places of the union in many trolleys for construction or sinking, pond filling. There is a layer of soil on the road. Pedestrians and drivers of various vehicles are suffering due to flying dust.
Locals said that Union Awami League's cultural secretary Nantu Dewan is selling the land at a high price, showing the strength of the party's power. As the house is next to the road, they spend their days in fear with small children. Besides, there is a school next to it. When an accident happens. In addition, their houses are becoming dirty due to the soil. Nevertheless, they do not dare to protest because of the fear of Nantu. It is known that Nantu is involved in soil business. When the winter season comes, the soil sales business starts the year with the main target being the soil of the cropland. Crop land is being lost in this. Before the end of the monsoon this year, Nantu Dewan, a soil trader, has started selling soil. The price of soil is also getting higher due to non-drying of monsoon water. About 80-100 trolleys of soil are being sold every day. Soil is being sold at Tk 780-1000 per trolley.
In this regard, Nantu Dewan, a soil trader, said, "To renovate the old pond, we are removing the soil from the bank around the pond. Later, the water will be filtered and a bank will be made around it. That soil is being sold in trolleys to different destinations.
Chairman of Nazirpur UP Ayub Ali said, I do not know about this. He requested the intervention of the administration to stop it quickly if anyone is doing such work.
Gurdaspur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shrabani Roy said that any work that damages government resources or people will not be tolerated. Necessary action will be taken on site.
