Starting Wednesday morning, the Metrorail operated on a new schedule in an attempt to improve service efficiency and meet the new government office hours.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has coordinated this change to align with the office hours set by the government, which now run from 9 am to 5 pm.
M A N Siddique, the Managing Director of DMTCL, highlighted the necessity of this adjustment. He explained that the government’s decision on June 6 to standardise office hours necessitated a corresponding change in the Metrorail schedule to ensure smooth and efficient transit for commuters.
The revised schedule for trains travelling from Uttara North to Motijheel is as follows:
Special Off-Peak Hours: 7:10 am to 7:30 a.m., with trains arriving every 10 minutes.
Peak Hours: 7:31 am to 11:36 am with an 8-minute headway.
Off-Peak Hours: 11:37 am to 2:24 pm with a 12-minute headway.
Peak Hours: 2:25 pm to 8:32 pm with an 8-minute headway.
Special Off-Peak Hours: 8:33 pm to 9:00 pm with a 10-minute headway.
For trains running from Motijheel to Uttara North, the new timetable includes:
Special Off-Peak Hours: 7:30 am to 8:00 am with trains every 10 minutes.
Peak Hours: 8:01 am to 12:08 pm with an 8-minute headway.
Special Off-Peak Hours: 12:09 pm to 3:04 pm with a 12-minute headway.
Peak Hours: 3:05 pm to 9:12 pm with an 8-minute headway.
Special Off-Peak Hours: 9:13 pm to 9:40 pm with a 10-minute headway.
According to DMTCL, these changes aim to optimise travel times and enhance the commuting experience for all passengers, ensuring that the Metrorail service remains punctual and reliable throughout the day. By synchronising the Metrorail schedule with the new office hours, DMTCL hopes to provide a more streamlined and efficient transit service for the people of Dhaka.
