A total of 35 poor and disadvantaged students who obtained brilliant results in SSC and equivalent examinations in last 2017 and 2018 were given stipend for their betterments in Rajshahi on Tuesday.
Centre for Action Research- Barind (CARB), a non-government organization, provided the stipend in a function at its office at Godagari Upazila in the district. Each of the students were given bank cheques of BDT 12,000, reports BSS.
Upazila Chairman Jahangir Alam Prodhan addressed the stipend distribution ceremony as chief guest with CARB Chief Executive Officer Abdur Raquib in the chair.
Union Parishads Chairman Ruhul Amin, Headmaster of AFG Girls High School Abdur Rahman and CARB Director Nahida Parveen were also present.
In order to build an educated and prosperous nation, the speakers underscored the need for ensuring the right to education for the poor and underprivileged communities.
They viewed that access to education for all is an urgent need for overall development of the country. Collective efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned are of essence in this regard.
Beside, the government, rich people of the society and financial institutions should come forward for providing education support to the underprivileged students.
Upazila Chairman Jahangir Alam urged all concerned to come forward to protect the rights of the underprivileged students.
Jahangir said the present government has taken many need-based steps for the welfare of the distressed and underprivileged students.
