Merchant ships collide at Matarbari

The merchant ship MV Archagilsadhar Grabiel and another merchant ship MV Densa Panther collided at Matarbari anchorage on Sunday at around 8:00 am due to severe rainfall.

Immediately after the incident, Bangladesh Coast Guard ship Shyamal Bangla reached the spot and provided overall assistance to the two ships. The two ships involved in the accident suffered extensive damage. However, no casualties were reported in the accident.

The Maltese-flagged merchant ship MV Archagilsadhar Grabiel, which was anchored at Matarbari on the day of the accident due to heavy rains, started dragging at around 0430 am.

At one point, the ship broke both anchors and collided with another Maltese-flagged merchant ship, the Densa Panther, at anchor. The collision shattered a plate on the ship's side of the Densa Panther.

There were also other damages to both ships. Immediately after the collision, the Bangladesh Coast Guard patrol vessel in the Bay of Bengal, Shyamal Bangla, a submarine, reached the spot and collected information about the captain and crew of the two ships involved in the accident.

Overall activities will be continued to control the overall law and order in the sea area under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Coast Guard, including any kind of rescue operations and prevention of smuggling.
