Menon sent to jail after 3-day remand in attempted murder case of Mirza Abbas

Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh and former minister, has been sent to jail in connection with the attempted murder case related to the attack on Mirza Abbas.

On Wednesday, September 25, following a three-day remand, he was presented in court, where the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Mainul Islam Khan Pulak of Shahbagh Police Station, applied to detain him in jail. In response to the application, Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanuallah was ordered to be sent to jail.

Earlier, on September 17, the court had granted a three-day remand for Menon.

According to reports, on December 15, 2018, during an election campaign led by Mirza Abbas in Segunbagicha under Ramna Police Station, several individuals, acting under Menon’s direction, attacked the group with local weapons. 

During the attack, they attempted to murder Mirza Abbas and the leaders and activists accompanying him.

Following the incident, BNP 

leader Imam Hossain Imon filed 

an attempted murder case 

with Shahbagh Police Station on August 28.
