Mehazabien Chowdhury's debut film 'Saba' has been selected for the Discovery Program at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Directed by Maksud Hossain, 'Saba' will have its world premiere at the 49th edition of the festival, which runs from September 5 to September 15. This program features 24 films in total, including 'Saba'.
Mehazabien is thrilled about this achievement. "This is my first film, and it's a huge career achievement. The decision to choose this story for my debut movie was the right one," she said. Mehazabien has been in the entertainment industry for 14 years, working in dramas, commercials, and OTT platforms, but 'Saba' marks her first big-screen project.
She shared her excitement, saying, "I always wanted to do a movie that touches the heart of the audience. When I heard the story of 'Saba', I knew it would be my first film. Being nominated at such a major festival like Toronto is beyond my imagination."
Director Maksud Hossain is also excited about the film's nomination. "I have made many short films and directed commercials for 21 years. Making a full-length film was my dream, and I fulfilled it last year. Hearing that 'Saba' will be screened at TIFF is overwhelming," he said.
The story and screenplay of 'Saba' were written by Maksud Hossain and Trilora Khan. This film is also Maksud Hossain's first full-length directorial venture.
Mehazabien believes this opportunity will further enrich her career. "The film being screened at a big festival is my luck as an artiste. It’s a huge career achievement. After a long wait, the decision to do this film feels right," she added.
With 'Saba' making its mark internationally, Mehazabien and her team are looking forward to sharing their work with audiences around the world.
