Fuad Chowdhury's film “Meghna Konnya” is set to be featured at the 11th Silk Road International Film Festival. The five-day event will start on 21 September in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, China.
“Meghna Konnya” is the only film from South Asia selected for this year’s festival. Released in theaters last Eid-ul-Fitr, the film was also shown at the Toronto International Film Fair (TIIF) in Canada.
The film tells the story of two women from different backgrounds—one from a rural area and the other from an urban setting—who struggle against societal barriers. The narrative focuses on the issue of women trafficking and their journey towards achieving their dreams.
Produced by Anwar Azad Films and SJ Motion Pictures, with co-production from Switzerland, the movie features performances by Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shatabdi Wadud, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Shemonti Das Shumi, and Sajjad Hossain. The script is written by Fahmidur Rahman and Ahmed Khan Hirok.
The Silk Road International Film Festival is organized by China Media Group, in collaboration with the Shaanxi and Fujian provincial governments. The festival includes a film panorama, a film forum, and the competition for the “Golden Silk Road Award,” judged by film experts and notable personalities from around the world.
The festival will conclude with a finale and prize distribution ceremony on 25 September.
