River erosion has gradually started in the villages of Nabinagar in Brahmanbaria on the banks of the Meghna River. In the last few days, at least 25 houses have been destroyed.
Fifty more families are at risk of collapse. Local residents demanded immediate action to prevent the erosion.
It is learned that every year during the monsoon season, erosion occurs in the banks of the river Meghna in Nabinagar West Union of Nabinagar Upazila. In the last few days, at least 25 houses in Chitri, Charlapang and Darilapang villages of the union have been washed away by the river.
The victims are in an inhuman condition after losing their land in the river. At least half a hundred more houses along the river are at risk due to the continued erosion of the river. Many people have removed the furniture out of fear. Someone is removing the whole tin house elsewhere.
Residents of Chitri village said that houses are disappearing into the riverbed day by day. Some kind of life has been saved. The furniture of the house-cattle could not save anything. In just a few hours, many houses have disappeared in the riverbed. Now you are in an inhuman state. The families have sought the cooperation of the government in this situation.
Nabinagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ekramul Siddique said necessary steps are being taken to prevent erosion. The affected families have been given cash assistance and dry food.
