Measures for safety of trains during blockade

The Railway authorities have taken some special measures for safe running of trains during the countrywide blockade called by the opposition political parties. 

The number of security personnel have been increased to ensure security at various railway stations.

The railway authorities have directed the railway loco masters, assistant loco masters and sub loco masters to wear helmets during the strike. A four-member committee has been convened by the Railway Security Force. Lalmonirhat DTO. Railway security personnel are patrolling the train. The Convener and Emergency Committee of members are – Convener Abdullah Al Mamun (DTO/Lalmonirhat); Member Ahsan Habib (DEN/Lalmonirhat); Member Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Commandant (Division)/Lalmonirhat and Member Tasruzzaman Babu, DME (Carriage & Wagon)/Lalmonirhat.

Additional Police and Railway Security Force (RNB) personnel have been deployed at Chattogram Railway Station, Feni, Akhaura, Cumilla, Bhairab railway stations since Tuesday morning.

Helmets have been distributed among train drivers and assistant drivers. Wearing bullet-proof jackets, weapons, whistles, sticks, helmets, the protest will continue till next Thursday.

According to railway sources, 263 trains are currently plying across the country. 850 people are employed as Locomaster (LM), Assistant Locomaster (ALM) and Sub Locomaster (SLM) in operating these trains. Mujibur Rahman Bhuiyan, Chattogram Divisional Convener of Running Staff and Labour Employees Union, said, “We have asked the railway authorities to strengthen security in trains. We have been instructed to wear helmets. But we have reported some things to the authorities.” The speed of the train is kept at 60, 70 or 80 km somewhere.

According to the Eastern Division of Railways, helmets have been distributed to the locomasters

from the Railway Mechanical Department. It is said to wear it. Along with this, security has been

strengthened at various railway stations. Members of Railway Security Force (RNB), Railway Police (GRP) will be deployed round the clock. Chattogram Range Police authorities have been told about security.

In the light of this past experience, instructions have been given to the loco masters directly involved in train operation to wear helmets for safety.
