Six-week long measles-rubella campaign was inaugurated in Jhenidah on Saturday morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Saroj Kumar Nath inaugurated the campaign at Jhenidah municipality premises as chief guest. Jhenaidah municipality panel mayor -2 Jahidul Islam presided over the inauguration while, other government officials and peoples’ representatives were present at the time. Jhenidah Civil surgeon Dr. Salina Begum, Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital Superintendent Fr. Harun Or Rashid, municipal councilor Mahbubur Rahman Sekhar, Saiful Islam Madhu and others were present as special guests there.
Jhenaidah Municipality Secretary Mustaq Ahmed conducted the inauguration. Children were provided measles-rubella vaccine then.
Chief guest DC Saroj Kumar Nath in his speech said a huge number of children fall victim of deadly diseases measles and rubella every year. But the diseases might be controlled if the children are given vaccines in due time.
As the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working towards building a healthy Bangladesh, eradication all arriers to health sectors, so that each and every citizen could avail health services.
According to district health office sources, the six week long campaign will continue till January 24.
During this campaign a total of 2,56,320 children aged between nine months to a year will be given vaccination in six upazilas and five municipalities of Jhenidah.
