With the aim of rehabilitating beggars and creating alternative employment opportunities, Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) and Mymensingh City Social Service Office distributed various materials including rickshaws, cows, goats, vans for small businesses among 10 beggars in Nagar Bhavan premises.
MCC Mayor distributed these on Saturday afternoon under the beggar rehabilitation and alternative employment program of the government.
At this time, he said, no one takes begging as a profession. It is created out of poverty and helplessness. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina helps all the helpless. She also thinks for the most marginalized people of the society. She is working to realize the dream of a developed country free from hunger and poverty.
The mayor said to the beggars, you can join the income-raising activities with what you have been given. The promise of no more begging must be kept by effort.
It is to be noted that the City Corporation Implementation Committee has selected these beggars through interviews from among the beggars listed and verified by the City Social Services Office. The beggars receiving the rehabilitation materials are residents of Goailkandi, Kanchijhuli, Baishakhai, Banshbari Colony, Sutiakhali, Charpara Bailen, Kalibari and Thanaghat Baluchar of Mymensingh City Corporation.
Md Yusuf Ali, Chief Executive Officer of MCC, Divisional Director of Mymensingh Social Service Office Tahmina Akhter, Deputy Director of District Social Service Office Abdul Qayyum, Transport General Manager of MCC Shiuli Hari, Regional Executive Officer Rafikuzzaman, Councilors of MCC, City Social Service Officer Fatema Tuz Zohra and others were present during the distribution of rehabilitation materials.
