On Friday, one million students nationwide took the medical college admission exam for the 2023–2024 academic year. The one-hour exam began at 10 a.m. at 44 locations across 19 centers across the country. Health officials in Bangladesh have suspended the admissions process for six medical colleges' MBBS programs for the current academic year.

Two medical colleges have been deregistered, while the admissions process has been suspended for four.

Prof Dr Md Titu Miah, Director General of Medical Education, disclosed the information at a press conference at the Sheikh Hasina Institute of National Burn and Plastic Surgery on Thursday. "The admission process has been suspended as the medical colleges could not maintain the standard,” he further added.

The medical colleges are Uttara Aichi Medical College, Northern Medical College, Shah Makhdum Medical College, CARE Medical College, and Nightingale Medical College. Among these, the registrations of CARE Medical College and Savar’s Nightingale Medical Colleges have been canceled.

Responding to a question, Prof Dr Md Titu Miah said, “Hospitals are not that important for first-year medical students. A decision will be made about United Medical College after the legal process.”

The entry test for MBBS was held on Friday from 10 am to 11 am simultaneously at 19 centers in 44 venues across the country. A total of 104,374 applicants competed for seats in the medical college admission test this year.
