Just after a day of a landslide victory in the Narayanganj City Corporation election as mayor, Dr Selina Hayat Ivy expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Narayanganj city dwellers at her residence on Monday.
“Before the election I was assured that I would pay a gift ‘Boat’ to the Prime Minister, winning by a major margin of the vote. According to my assurances, I believe I can live up to my pre-election pledges. My source of energy is city dwellers' support, love and vote”, Ivy said.
Dr Selina Hayat Ivy after her third-time massive victory in a media brief at her residence candidly declared that she will work with all without any discrimination between political identity.
She also mentioned that if the vote casting procedures were faster the margin of winning votes would have been higher.
“I have no complaints against anyone, even against my main rival Taimur Alam Khandoker who was an Independent candidate. I will meet my uncle Taimur Alam when he is available at the house. I wanted to meet Taimur uncle in the morning but he was not present in the house,” Ivy said.
Ivy addressed to the media that they know all scenarios of the development of Narayanganj City Corporation. “I have continuously worked for the development of the city during the last 18. I have taken on some mega projects, infrastructural, educational, maternity health, communications and beautifying development. That would be continued in the next five years.”
“I dream of building a modern city corporation in Narayanganj and it is still in my plan,” said Ivy, adding, “When I first elected Narayanganj pourashava chairperson, the munmicipality fund was zero even though it was impossible to pay the staff salary but now the city corporation is financially healthier than the previous time.”
She served eight years as chairman of Narayanganj municipality and then it was constituted as a city corporation and she was elected mayor by defeating Shamim Osman with a large margin.
With a 69,000 vote margin Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy was elected third time as Narayanganj City mayor in the election on January 16. In Ivy's fourth term of elections, three BNP’s and one Awami League-owned high voltage leader had been defeated with a huge margin of votes.
