Hilsa is being caught in large numbers in the nets of fishermen. However, the prices are still high.
Buyers are saying that the price has been increased due to syndicating and therefore they had to buy hilsa at a higher price.
Per kg hilsa was being sold at Tk 1100, 700-800gm hilsa at Tk 600-900 and 400 -500gm was being sold at upto Tk 500 per kg.
Denying the issue of syndicate, Mawa fish market president Chana Ranjan Das said that the price of hilsa is affordable. However, due to the use of current net in Padma, hilsas are being harmed.
The government has imposed a ban on catching, selling and transporting of hilsa for 22 days from October 4 to October 25. The buyers have been crowding the fish market for hilsa ahead of the ban.
