Komoli Robi Dash, a tea worker from Kanihati in Moulvibazar, received the 'Best Joyeeta Award' as a successful mother on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
She received the award for her achievement in the 'Successful Mother' category at the national level. Ministry of Women and Children Affairs organized the programme at Dhaka's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Friday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented Komoli a cheque of Tk one lakh, crest, saree and certificate.
Komoli, who had previously received honors at upazila, District and divisional level levels, became very happy to receive the award and said 'I have suffered a lot throughout my life. We are very happy now to receive the award directly from the hands of the Prime Minister. Santosh Robi Dash, son of the struggling mother, said, 'I am very happy with my mother's achievement. Mother has suffered a lot throughout her life. Now Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina awarded her. What could be the happiest news for me?' Santosh Robi Dash was born in a labourer's family in Kanihati tea garden of Shamshernagar Union No. 4 of Kamalganj Upazila. He lost his father at his very childhood.
He said his mother Komoli Robi Dash used to work at a tea garden with the daily wage of Taka 18. Santosh continued his study in extreme poverty. His mother took a loan from the bank for her son's admission money, uniform and books. Apart from working in the tea garden, she used to work far away as a sand laborer to repay the loan installments. Santosh Robi Dash once got an opportunity to study in the marketing department of Dhaka University. Her inspiring journey, documented in her son’s social media post titled “Maayer Namta Kete Dilo,” gained attention in 2022, leading to job offers from at least ten organisations. He eventually secured a job at Mutual Trust Bank’s Lal Dighee branch in Sylhet.
Komoli’s son emphasised the need for continued support in education, technological training, career counselling, and overall development for the children of tea workers.
